Coronavirus infections surge in rural India as nation adds 1 million new cases in less than a month

The number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the three-million mark on August 23, 2020. The country has reported the world’s highest number of daily new cases: more than 50,000 new cases every day for the last 18 days. Reports show that cases in rural areas have been adding to the latest surge of new cases. According to federal health ministry data, India’s case tally stands at 3.1 million – behind only the US and Brazil.
