World's First Floating Sky Pool in London

2021-05-07 50 Dailymotion

The Sky Pool is a 10-feet deep transparent swimming pool that stretches between the 10th floors of two residential skyscrapers in southwest London's Nine Elms, and it's only available to the lucky residents of the apartment complex.

It's also very high, at 115 feet, and the water alone is said to weigh about 375 tons. It will officially open on May 19, but models have already been photographed in the water for advertising purposes. Architects Arup Associates, engineers Eckersley O'Callaghan, and aquarium designers Reynolds collaborated on the structure. Arup is no stranger to difficult architectural challenges. One of its most high-profile clients is the Sydney Opera House.

It's the world's largest freestanding acrylic pool structure, and it's the centerpiece of EcoWorld Ballymore's new Embassy Gardens creation, which includes bars, restaurants, and shops. It is located next to the US Embassy and near to the south bank of the Thames, bathers will be able to take in views of the London skyline, including the London Eye and Westminster, from the pool.

"Once you swim off, you can look right down. It will be like flying," Brian Eckersley, director of Eckersley O'Callaghan.
