Covid-19: Bengaluru sanitation workers protest over salary hike, basic safety needs

As Bangalore grapples with record cases of Covid-19, many sanitation workers in the city are protesting about their basic safety needs in the time of Covid crisis. They said, "We are facing dangers every day during the time of Covid-19. We have lost many colleagues due to Covid-19. Now it’s high time that the government should increase our salaries to Rs 10,000. If not, then we will not work more."

Karnataka’s active caseload breached the 5-lakh with 49,058 fresh Covid-19 infections on Thursday, while the infection toll stood at 17,212 with 328 deaths, the health department said. According to the department bulletin, the infection count is now 17,90,104, whereas there are 5,17,075 active cases in the state. With 18,943 discharges on Thursday, 12,55,797 people have been discharged so far.
