Sri Lanka crisis: Speaker appoints Ranil Wickremesinghe as acting President

Sri Lanka Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has appointed PM Ranil Wickremesinghe the acting President amid massive protests against the move. Current President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is yet to resign from his post.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to Maldives in the early hours of Wednesday, the day he was supposed to resign from his presidency.
