Judy Collins at Governors Island Anathea

This eerie tragic Hungarian ballad about a girl who sacrifices her virginity to a corrupt and lecherous judge to save her brother from hanging, only to find him hanged anyway was the basis for Dylan's Seven Curses (Bootleg Album). Judy has been enchanting audiences with this song since very early in her career (3rd album) and you can find early performances on YouTube. The Hootenany television performance of 1963, is sadly bowdlerized so as not to incriminate a judge in public (heaven forbid, it might shake the public faith in the justice system) though he is the villain of this song. The actual curses can be found in the Newport performance.
