Chelsea have crushed Wigan Athletic 8-0 to clinch the English Premier League title.

The Blues finished the season with 86 points, one ahead of outgoing champions Manchester United who beat Stoke City 4-0 on the final day of the campaign.

Goals from Nicolas Anelka and Frank Lampard put Chelsea 2-0 up at the break before the Blues went on the rampage with Salomon Kalou, Anelka and Didier Drogba finding the net within nine minutes of each other in the second half.

Drogba struck twice more, and Ashley Cole converted a well-taken volley to condemn Wigan to defeat and secure the Blues' first Premier League trophy since 2006.

Asked about his difficult year - captain John Terry was stripped of the England armband after allegations about his personal life - Terry said: "It amazes me that people still talk about it. This is what it's all about, this is what I've worked so hard for all.

"It's about Chelsea Football Club and our day today."

He added: "It's been a hard three years, not winning the Premier League, but we've done it today and we deserved it.

"It's been inside of me for three years, seeing Man United lift it season after season and every single one of us has sat there and watched it. And now it's their turn to sit there and watch us today."
