A massive landslide sweeps through a town in China's northwestern Gansu Province, killing over 100 and leaving 1,300 missing. Buildings are swallowed in mud, making any rescue attempts difficult.
Mudslides battered northwest China on Sunday, killing 127 people with at least 1,300 missing so far.

The mudslides and flooding resulted from torrential rain that hit Zhouqu County in Gansu Province on Saturday, an area dominated by steep and barren hills.

Runoff from the downpour banked up behind a landslide in the narrow valley of the Bailong River near the main town in Zhouqu.

Buildings and streets are deep in mud and other parts of the town are submerged in floodwater.

The town's hydroelectric station was smashed during the mudslide, leaving the area without electricity.

In China, more than 1,400 people have been killed this year in floods that have devastated the country's central and southern regions.
