Thousands of Indonesian villagers are living in shelters, after they were forced to flee their homes near an erupting volcano. But many are concerned about the conditions of the camps.

Indonesia's Mount Sinabung continues to erupt, spewing ash and rocks into the sky.

Thousands of villagers living in the volcano's shadow have been forced from their homes into temporary shelters.

They don't know when they will be allowed to return.

[Nuraida Siregar, Villager]:
"I am still scared but not as scared as yesterday when it erupted. I don't know when I can return to my house. If they (the authorities) say it is safe to go back, I will go home."

There are almost 30,000 people living in the shelters, and more are arriving each day.

Concerns are growing about conditions in the camps.

[Suwono Sembiring, Villager]:
"I think they must have more public toilets, especially for the children, they must queue for a very long time."

Officials say they are aware of the health concerns and will add more toilets and improve cleanliness.

Indonesian officials say the most common health problems are stress and influenza.

Doctors and medicine are being sent to the displaced who wait with no end in sight for the volcano to finish erupting.
