Elections 2010 Our strength is in Islam and Unity - Talk 1 - The Islamic view on elections
Some Muslims in Britain remain confused about their role in Britain and in particular their role in the forthcoming elections.
Some call for participation in Westminster politics, supporting one of the three main parties and the fielding of Muslim candidates.
Some call on the Muslims to seek their interests, secure benefits or protect their rights by voting for western politicians.
Others believe that Muslims should, like other “minorities”, use their bloc vote to influence domestic political decisions and western foreign policy by “strategically voting” for one party over another.
Some consider that voting in the west is likely to bring a greater benefit or avoid a greater haram.
In light of all these differing views, this seminar will examine the true Islamic position on the forthcoming elections, relying solely on the book of Allah (SWT) and the Sunnah of His Messenger (SAW).
