India satellite launch explodes after take-off

An Indian rocket trying to launch a communication satellite has exploded spectacularly just after lift-off

Live TV footage showed the rocket disappearing in a cloud of smoke moments after its launch in Sriharikota near the city of Chennai.

The failure of the launch vehicle has been attributed to technical failure.

India says it wants to send a manned mission into space in 2016.
