U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke has vowed to oppose trade barriers imposed by the Chinese regime on US companies, if he is confirmed as the next ambassador to China.

In a speech at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, Locke said the United States welcomes Chinese investment apart from a few isolated cases that were blocked due to national security concerns.

But, according to Locke, US companies are "frequently shut out of entire industries, or they are forced to give up propriety information as a condition of operating in China."

In the lead-up to next week's U.S. China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has warned of a protectionist backlash in the US if the Chinese regime does not re-value its currency and stop favoring its state-owned enterprises.
