After Chinese rights advocate Hu Jia was released on Sunday, he expressed wanting to continue his activism despite his ill health.

In a phone interview with Hong Kong's Cable TV, Hu stressed the importance of being loyal to the rights of citizens, and said "you should be loyal to your conscience."

But Hu is cautious and is considering the impact his work will have on his family.

His wife told the BBC they are currently living under conditions "equivalent to house arrest" and there are many police outside their Beijing flat.

The Chinese regime has banned Hu from political activities for one year, which includes talking to the media.

Analysts are saying Hu's release, also like the recently released artist Ai Weiwei, does not indicate that Chinese authorities are relaxing their clampdown on outspoken Chinese dissidents.
