Chinese authorities have barred a 62-year-old Catholic priest and rights activist from entering China. It comes amid escalating clashes with the Vatican.
Italian-born Father Franco Mella participated in recent Hong Kong protests against the regime's ordinations of two bishops without consent from the pope.
Mella, who lives in Hong Kong, has a valid Chinese visa and did not have any problems visiting the Mainland before in the past two decades.
But on Tuesday, he was stopped at the Hong Kong-Shenzhen immigration checkpoint and told his Chinese visa had been cancelled.
