A major food scare has hit Shanghai and three other Chinese provinces. Police investigations in the four Chinese regions turned up over 43 tons of toxic food in the form of tofu sticks, a Chinese snack.

Added to the sticks were chemicals like borax and industrial strength bleach. Both chemicals are thought to potentially cause cancer, and produce other symptoms like headaches and nausea. 273 factories turning out the toxic food were discovered in Shanghai, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Hunan provinces.
