Hong Kong authorities have suspended the sale and import of live chickens for 21 days. That came after a chicken carcass tested positive for the H5N1 avian flu virus Wednesday.
The city's government is tracing the source of the infected chicken. It's not yet known whether the chicken was from a local farm or imported.
In the meantime, authorities also began culling thousands of birds to prevent spread of the virus.
Vendors say their businesses will suffer great losses and profits will be reduced by 80 percent without a live chicken supply.
