An unexpected New Year present for Japanese police.
A member of the doomsday Aum Shinrikyo cult, Makoto Hirata turns himself in after 16 years on the run.
Hirata is wanted in connection with the abduction and murder of chief clerk Kiyoshi Kariya from this neighbourhood in 1995.
The 68-year-old Kariya's body was never found despite an extensive search by police.
He had been trying to get a relative to leave the cult and was reportedly being threatened by cult members.
Hirata, now 46, has told police his only involvement in Kariya's abduction was driving the car used for the kidnapping.
Kariya's son says he just wants the truth.

"I just want him to tell us everything he knows, the whole truth."
Shoko Asahara, the cult's founder - real name Chizuo Matsumoto - had a death sentence confirmed in 2006.
Aum Shinrikyo was behind simultaneous attacks with sarin nerve gas on five Tokyo subway trains in 1995 which killed 12 poeple and made thousands ill.
