Health authorities in mainland China are now saying that a man who died from bird flu got the H5N1 virus from a bird. They also said that strain of the virus still cannot be passed between humans.

Concern has been high since the 39-year-old bus driver died Saturday in the city of Shenzhen, just across the border from Hong Kong. That's because it wasn't clear how he would have been exposed to an infected bird.

Hong Kong remains on high alert after bird flu was found in dead poultry and wild birds in the territory last month.

Since the virus first made headlines in 2003, there has been widespread concern over the risks of H5N1 mutating into a form that can pass quickly among humans.

More than 300 people have died from H5N1 globally, and the much-feared highly contagious strain has yet to emerge.
