Man acquitted of drowning wife

It was an emotional day for Gabe Watson.

He was acquitted for killing his new wife during their honeymoon in October 2003.

Watson was accused of drowning Tina while they were on a scuba diving trip in Australia during their honeymoon.

Prosecutors maintained that Watson was motivated by the potential insurance payouts, and turned off her oxygen supply during their dive.

But U.S. judge Tommy Nail ruled that there was no evidence to suggest that Watson intended to kill.

Watson had earlier served 18 months in an Australian jail after pleading guilty to failing to do enough to help his wife.
