In this video, Angie Simpson, the administrator of Lotus Park Assisted Living, discusses the activity programs to keep the residents active.

"Probably the most important thing for residents when they first come in is first of all they want to feel comfortable and they want the surroundings to feel like they can just relax. The second thing is food, it's a huge deal and we've hired a fabulous cook. So we want them to be happy with the food because that's big for all of us, that's a very social thing too.

The next thing, we have a wonderful activities coordinator. We have a bus and we can go on bus trips. We have a room specifically set up for doing crafts or playing games or whatever they want to do. We spend all day keeping them busy, giving them opportunities to get out of their rooms, to get to know each other. So they're not sitting in their room being bored or lonely.

That's big problem and that's a lot of reason why people come to a facility like this, because they're home alone and it's lonely and they're scared and they spend a lot of time missing their family or their spouse. Some of what they need is a diversion. They need a diversion, they need some new friends, they need some activities, and they need opportunities to develop their talents that they had when they were young and they can go back and do those things again. We try to offer those things for them to do.
