Madonna to be sued by French far right

The French far right political party the National Front is set to sue Madonna for using an image of their party leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika superimposed over the politician's face.

The Material Girl is seen here in Berlin, with the incident taking place at a similar concert in Paris on Saturday (July 14).

The face of the National Front leader appears for a few seconds, with the fascist symbol briefly imposed on it, and is followed by the features of a man resembling Adolf Hitler.

The Vice-President of the political party Florian Philippot says the image was just a way for Madonna to revive her career.

SOUNDBITE: National Front Vice President Florian Philippot, saying (French):

"Just because one's name is Madonna, and one has a lot of money and is very well-known, that one can do anything just to be talked about, and to try to rekindle a career which is in a slump. So we will file a complaint, because Marine Le Pen's honour has been attacked."

He added that Madonna stay out of politics.

SOUNDBITE: National Front Vice President Florian Philippot, saying (French):

"If she wants to be talked about, she should go back to basics, I don't know, like throwing underwear or provocations that she's known for. Why not, if it's in this way that she attracts the public?"

It's not good news for Le Pen, who, since taking over the party last year from her late father Jean-Marie, has worked to crack down on racist talk and anti-Semitism within the National Front.

Madonna has not commented on the incident.

She's next set to perform in London on Tuesday (July 17).
