CGR Undertow reviews MONKEY MISCHIEF PARTY TIME for Nintendo Wii. This kids video game is basically the exact same game as they abyssmal Block Party but with monkeys. Theres a reason monkeys are always the most popular animals at the zoo. They run, they jump, and they throw their own poop at each other. Whats more fun than a monkey? I honestly dont have an answer for that, but I know this game certainly isnt. Its called Monkey Mischief: Party Time, and the main characters are four pesky primates which have busted out of their cages at the local zoo. Once free of mans iron shackles, they do what wild monkeys have done for thousands of years—torment every animal they can find. Quite frankly, the premise is awesome, but unfortunately, its also the only worthwhile aspect of Monkey Mischief. The rest quickly deteriorates into a full-blown monkey-poop fight. There are so many issues with Monkey Mischief; its difficult to know where to begin. The game is essentially a mini game compilation in the mold of Nintendos Mario Party, Ubisofts Rayman Raving Rabbids or the countless other low-quality imitations that developers have been shamelessly rushing to Wii for years. In the case of Monkey Mischief, think more of the latter category—this is a low-budget, half-baked slice of unoriginal Wii development at its worst. Lets start with the mini games themselves. The entire package consists of 20 mini games, each of which lasts roughly a minute. Theyre meant to be quick blasts of monkey madness, so the brevity of the mini games might not be a problem if not for the load times. Each game takes between 10-15 seconds to load, and afterwards, youll wait a similar length to return to the menu. Mathematicians have probably figured it out already, but this translates to a wait between 25-30 seconds for every 60 seconds of gameplay. Thats kind of a major issue. Of course, once you finally get to it, the video game play really isnt much better.
