STORY: Myanmar celebrated the 65th anniversary of its independence from British rule in capital Naypyitaw on Friday.

Myanmar state television showed thousands of military, government officials and residents taking part in the military parade at the city hall in the capital 320 kilometers (200 miles) north of Yangon.

The celebration was held a day after the government said the military used air strikes against fighters in Myanmar's north in Kachin.

The United Nations has raised concerns over the reports of the air strikes in Myanmar's Kachin State, where a 20-month conflict between government troops and rebels has been escalating.
