Young Guns Awards 2009: Finalist Ident

Titles / Show Package: Concept, Design, Direction, Set Design, Shoot, Editing, Effects. For the 2009 Young Guns Awards, I was asked to design and direct the title sequence, idents, and package graphics for the awards show night and DVD, based on the theme of "Award Show Sacrifice". The concept continues Young Guns' annual tradition of an irreverent and sometimes controversial approach to their branding and promotions. Taking the idea literally, some old awards that were laying around the office gathering dust were placed in terrifying and grisly scenarios. After an intensive prop buying session (which included live insects) I created mini tableaus based around 6 different awards, filmed these with a Canon 5D MkII, and edited down to 1 minute opening sequence that combined all scenarios. Individual idents for the 6 categories of awards were also created. The titles package was very well received on the big screen at event host Publicis Mojo Sydney. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and Kristian Barnes, one of the YGA founders, had this to say: "The intro and credits were brilliant both visually and musically. A growing number of creatives, locally & globally, are asking for copies which we will send out in the next few weeks".
