Treehugging carpenter hands out free furniture to support environmental causes

2014-02-19 6 Dailymotion

Carpenter Hsieh Wen-da (謝彣達) enjoys making furniture to support environmental causes. The 51-year-old is nicknamed "Foolish Earth Lover" by friends and family because of his strong passion for recycling. This passion has also inspired him to encourage others to do the same. For the last two decades, he has kept a battery recycling bin outside of his house, and has been giving out free handmade furniture to motivate his neighbors to recycle. People can get a free upholstered stool for every 300 batteries they turn in.

His home is filled with used and leftover wood, as well as sponges and cloths for his projects. Over the past 20 years, he's exchanged 20,000 handmade stools for 600,000 used batteries.

Last year, he added blood donation to his roster of causes. Blood donors are now also eligible for getting one of his very sought-after stools.
