64-year-old Osaka taxi driver Kazuo Terai, is in hot water for allegedly allowing a drunk man to fall out of his cab while it was still in motion.
The 71 year old victim, Yasukatsu Okuda of Nara prefecture, was out drinking with old friends according to his wife.
He spent the evening drinking to the point of being drunk, and decided to take a cab home. Midway through the journey, he opened the door to vomit while the taxi was in motion, and somehow fell out. The car immediately behind ran him over, killing him. The door shut itself and the driver, oblivious to the whole thing, simply continued driving.
During the police interrogation, he denied all charges, saying that he suddenly realised the passenger disappeared. However he once alerted the taxi company that he had several run-ins with fare dodgers in the past.
