Bomb disposal experts in Cambodia conducted a controlled explosion on one of two devices found in the country's capital Phnom Penh.
The devices, found in public areas, were discovered just two days before Cambodia's opposition party is scheduled to stage a mass protest to contest the legitimacy of the results from recent national elections.
One explosive was found near the National Assembly in a 10-liter barrel and was exploded on site after experts decided it was too dangerous to move.
"After CMAC went to explode the device successfully, with no injuries, we suggested that the director, Heng Ratana, provide expert officials to cooperate with police to make a report of what the powder was made from.
Right now, CMAC took some pieces of evidence to examine. Now, the situation is safe," Phnom Penh police chief Choun Sovann told The Phnom Penh Post.
The other bomb, comprising of three M79 shells, were found near the famous Wat Phnom--where the forthcoming protests are expected to end up.
Although government officials and experts told local media that it was too early to tell who was responsible for the explosives, the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party has been subject to recent acts of intimidation.
Yesterday, a defunct grenade was found outside a pagoda where CNRP leaders were giving speeches.
